Overview

The SABJE

Since 1929 the SA Board of Jewish Education has led the pursuit of Jewish Education within the South African community.  While intervening, coordinating and inspecting schools and chadorim, in 1948 they actively began a Jewish day school, King David Linksfield.

Since then, the SABJE has continued as the controlling body of the King David schools while representing the Jewish community in educational matters.  It is through this address that the community is able to influence general policy as a member of bodies such as the IEB, GETC, and others.  Most recently, the SABJE was successful in ensuring that Hebrew was accepted as a matric subject in the new curriculum.

The SABJE strives to be a resource to its affiliated schools, communities and organisations, providing both know-how and often materials to outlying communities as well as teachers in many of the remedial schools.

It is our hope to continue working with all Jewish schools and communal organisations for the nurturing of an ongoing open South African environment which appreciates the right of all to offer their specific community a cultural and religious specific education while contributing to South Africa.
