Shabbatonim

Shabbatonim

One cannot truly appreciate the beauty and magic of Shabbat until one has experienced it. This is the credo of each Shabbaton that the King David learners participate in. From their first energy filled Shabbaton in grade 6 until their action packed Shabbaton in grade 10, every year these learners embark on a themed journey with their friends and advisors to experience a beautiful Shabbat together. Each activity that is run is geared towards giving the learners an overall positive experience of Shabbat in particular and Judaism in general. Each Shabbaton has a theme which is appropriate for where the learners are holding regarding their Yidishkeit and also where they stand in life general. The themes are as follows.

  • Grade 6: Mitzvot
  • Grade 7: Bar and Bat Mitzvah
  • Grade 8: Self awareness and self esteem
  • Grade 9: Relationships
  • Grade 10: Choices

The learners stay in bungalows with their friends and advisors are assigned to each bungalow where a whole lot of chilling, chatting, discussing and learning takes place from the early moments of ‘wake-up’ until the late hours of ‘room-time’. With informal educational activities, fun and positive shul services, Café DIJE (games), bonding, sports activities, free-time, competitions, inspiring stories and more, every Shabbaton is a jam packed, incredible experience for every King Davidian and most certainly a highlight of their year. The venue of the Shabbaton depends on the size of the group, with the smaller groups journeying to Camp David in the scenic Magaliesberg mountains and the larger groups experiencing the characteristic vibe of Mimosa Gardens Holiday resort in Parys, just over the Vaal river.
