DIJE
The Division of Informal Jewish education is a vibrant branch of the SABJE. The DIJE dedicates itself to the spiritual, moral and intellectual development of Jewish youth. The various programmes, shabbatonim, seminars and encounters, creatively designed by a dynamic team of young informal educators, attempt to make Judaism meaningful, relevant and alive. The programme complements the formal classroom and allows learners to engage with and experience their Judaism. The learners are exposed to the depth of their tradition through the relationships created with a select community of passionate student advisors, who together with the context within which this educational process resides, fosters lifelong, indelible Jewish memories and experiences. The DIJE plants the seed for a perpetual Jewish identity. There are 3 powerful DIJE teams. The Shabbaton team is based at the Casper Centre on the Linksfield campus and are responsible for planning all Shabbatonim, Yomei Iyun and Encounters, as well as looking after the Sandton campus. Then there are two school teams (one at the Linksfield campus and one at the Victory Park campus) who are responsible for running creative and educational davening groups, informal classroom programmes, break and assembly activities and more. Since they are on the campus every day, the learners have a fantastic privilege in that they can bond and learn from these incredible people and fantastic role models.
