Outreach Programs
King David High School - Victory Park - Outreach
At King David High School Victory Park we have numerous outreach programmes. These programmes are for the Jewish community as well as for the general disadvantaged community of Gauteng.
For the festival of Pesach we have a huge collection of matzah, wine and grapefruit juice – this is taken to the Chevra Kadisha for distribution. Prior to Rosh Hashanah we hold a special tea for senior citizens from Our Parents Home and Sandringham Gardens.
The students of Grades 10 to 11 host about 90 students from the Pholosho Primary School on Wednesday afternoons. The programme varies from life skills to education tools the students so badly need. These are the most disadvantaged students from the school; most of them are given sandwiches, juice and soup in winter. We have also built up quite a substantial library at the school. The Mitzvah School team runs raffles and sells brownies to pay for their outreach programme. Our Mitzvah School has celebrated its 14th birthday.
During the July holidays we run a Winter School for students from the Ikageng Itereleng in Soweto. This is funded by the Tomorrow Trust. Excellent teachers from our school teach these students subjects they need to get to pass matric. All are given breakfast and a hot lunch. Subjects taught this year were English, Maths Literacy, Pure Maths, Accounting, Computer Literacy, Biology, Science, History and Drama.
