King David Victory Park High

King David High School Victory Park

At King David High School Victory Park, our foremost priority is to educate tomorrow’s leaders by infusing them with the life skills to master the challenges posed by an ever changing world.

To produce young people with the confidence to shape the future, our educators view each member of our student body as a unique individual.  Being a relatively small school, we are able to rediscover and nurture the strengths and talents of each one of our learners.  At the same time we are large enough to offer our students the advantages of an all-encompassing education that provides them with a wide subject choice, as well as a diverse range of sporting and cultural opportunities. The infrastructure of the King David Victory Park family-like environment facilitates the essential one-on-one tuition and hands-on coaching, which allows everyone to thrive. We pride ourselves on being able to provide everyone with a chance to participate both in the classroom and out. Participation that encourages meaningful personal relationships, teamwork, and commitment to causes beyond the attainment of individual prestige.

Why King David High School Victory Park?  We believe that achievement is not solely defined by the attainment of high marks.  Here at Victory Park, we measure achievement by the emotional, social and spiritual well-being of our pupils.  Being part of our close-knit, Jewish student community instils our young people with a sense of identity, a feeling of belonging, and above all a powerful sense of self-worth.  Our consistently impressive academic, sporting and cultural results highlight our ability to deliver a quality education that equips our pupils with that all-important competitive edge, which enables them to excel in every sphere of life.

The Judaic Aspect. To face the future, to make an impact as a Jewish adult, it is essential to know, respect and be proud of the past.  From inception to the present day, the history of King David High School Victory Park is interlinked with the strength of the South African Jewish Community.  In our continuous pursuit of excellence in Hebrew and Judaic studies, and our commitment to upholding Jewish traditions and values, we strive to ensure that our learners are infused with the pride in their heritage that encourages them to forge an indestructible connection to Jewish communal causes and the State of Israel.

Commemorative Days & Chagim.  It is only at a Jewish Day School that the commemoration of national and religious Holy Days is structured within the daily and weekly curriculum. In this way, we teach our students that being Jewish permeates every aspect of life and living.  Celebrating joyous occasions such as Tu Bishvat, Purim and Yom Yerushalayim, or commemorating solemn events like Tisha B’av, Yom Hashoah, or Yom Hazikaron, stimulates an awareness of the cohesion and faith that have sustained and strengthened the Jewish spirit through centuries of hardship and oppression.

Interactive Jewish Experiences. Other uniquely Jewish experiences such as; Shabbatonim, the Ulpan Programme, Encounter, Bible Quiz, and the Jewish Identity Quiz, provide pupils with a wealth of diverse, life-enriching opportunities to explore, debate and develop their individual Jewish identities and levels of religious observance.

Making an impact as a South African and a Jew.  According to Judaic belief the virtue of Chesed – which is kindness and generosity to others, was one of the three pillars on which the world was founded.  Projects such as Tikkun Olam - Outreach, Mitzvah School and Gemillut Chassadim, are aimed at motivating students to uphold and practice this value through their involvement in various upliftment, social and economic programmes.  In this way, we endeavour to equip them with the sense of social responsibility that will ultimately enable them to make a significant impact on society as both South Africans and Jews.

Academic Curriculum.  In a competitive era of unprecedented change, we believe that a well-rounded education must be focused on equipping pupils with the skills and knowledge to make the informed choices that will help them to shape the future.  A school can only do this, if instead of providing the answers, it teaches and encourages its learners to ask the right questions.  The progressive educational process, which we deliver, is broad and innovative.  It offers subject choices such as music, art, dance and drama and provides a balance of Judaic education and secular instruction that makes it possible for our pupils to deal with rapidly changing circumstances intellectually, spiritually, morally and emotionally.

Here at Victory Park, we give our young adults an education for living – designed for today with an eye on tomorrow.  In addition to the wide variety of subject combinations we offer, we also cater for students with moderate learning disabilities.  Academic support provides one-on-one extracurricular tuition.  Career guidance and full-time counsellors complement the curriculum.  Our dedicated members of staff represent our human intellectual capital.  Their knowledge, commitment and expertise are evidenced in our consecutive, year-after-year 100% pass rate and leading results in the I E B system.

Beyond the Blackboard.  ‘It is not the winning that is important, but the spirit in which the game is played; and the support given to the players.’ – Headmaster.  While we recognize that not everyone has the inborn talents of an Olympic athlete, we nevertheless believe in providing all sports enthusiasts with an opportunity to ‘play the game.’

In spite of our size, King David High School Victory Park, can lay claim to a number of noteworthy achievements and proudly boast of the legendary sporting feats of both past and present pupils.

Arts & Culture.  Our legendary reputation in the cultural sphere has made us formidable opponents in the arenas of debating and public speaking whilst the talents of our budding creative writers have been featured in some illustrious publications.  Under the direction of producer/headmaster, the school has earned critical acclaim for its spectacular annual musical productions that have played to packed houses.
