King David Primary Sandton
Hazel Bolnick, a young teacher was approached by some parents, who had moved into a new developing area called Gallo Manor, to start a new school called King David Sandton. Her excellent qualities were just what was needed to lead a brand new school and encourage more parents who were living in or planning to move to the area to come to the school.
Those somewhat primitive conditions under which we started brought a dimension to our school which set it apart from any other school around. The informal atmosphere of those early days, created a family ethos which our school has never lost, and which we strive to maintain. This was to be a school in which the children would be taught and constantly reminded of their rich heritage.
King David Primary School in Sandton is a Jewish primary school from Grade R to Grade 7 situated in the quiet Sandton suburb of Woodmead. The school features a fully equipped computer lab; media resource centre including library and audio-visual centre; Israel centre; and a Science laboratory. Culturally, our art room and music centre are the hub of Jewish ideology. Our sport facilities encompass amongst other things a 25m swimming pool, four all-weather tennis courts, three all-weather netball courts and playing fields, all with covered stands and seating areas. Our state of the art Foundation Phase classrooms and ablution facilities are spacious air-conditioned rooms equipped with interactive white boards, sliding doors and windows which create a feeling of being one with nature.
As a Jewish school, and part of the South African Board of Jewish Education (SABJE), we encourage a Zionistic curiosity to build and entrench an understanding of our Jewish roots and our beloved homeland. This is a school in which the children are taught and constantly reminded of their rich heritage.
