Rabbi's Welcome

The essence of education is effective communication. The King David schools were established by The South African Board of Jewish Education in order to communicate a tradition that takes the Jewish youth of South Africa back to its roots in a way that fills them with a pride and dignity. Steeped in the wisdom of a general education, the community would found and support a school system in which the youth could thrive. Such has been the passion of the King David schools for 60 years, delivering an excellent general education together with the study of Hebrew, Jewish Studies and the living of the Jewish calendar and year cycle.

The Jewish day school has always seen its responsibility to continue the two elements of our nations initial revelation at the founding of Am Yisrael, the voice of Sinai and the fire of Sinai. A voice filled with teachings that are relevant, contemporary and insightful yet find their source in the anciet wisdom of G-d's teachings. Together with a fire that warms, that exudes a passion and is always striving upwards. These teachings take place in the surrounds of fantastic facilities, under the guidance of caring and commited teachers and role models and encourage students to develop themselves while making a difference to their world. The world before the King David student is a broad one. It may begin with community in a Jewish sense but it quickly broadens to incorporate a sense of duty to South Africa and a deep sense of connection to Israel and then to the world at large. Many a Davidian has taken up their place as a responsible citizen wherever they find themselves in the world.

This website has been set up to further communicate to the school community what is happening on a daily, weekly or monthly basis across the schools. Using the internet as another means of communicating allows for the school community to become that much closer gaining information that is up-to-date and relevant. The Network section will be developed over time as this was felt to be one of the ways that the SABJE could help you, the parents.

Enjoy navigating the site and we look forward to hearing from you
